Jack's News Letter

TENNESSEE NAPUS NEWS
April 2012

“The Dog and Pony Show”    See the News Letter for more details.

Please look at the latest version of our program. See where you need to be and PLEASE be there. We have about 40 registered so far. We have met our room block, but people can still get rooms just tell them you are with NAPUS. Please contact your surrounding Postmasters and encourage them to attend even if it is only for Monday. We have a new interim District Manager that I am sure everyone will want to meet. There is a lot of relevant training scheduled for Monday. We will have a good time and it will be worth your time to be there.

If I sound like I am begging, I AM.

Thanks to Vickie for all her help. Keep her and her family in your prayers and hope she will be able to be with us at Mt. Julie.

Breaking News on NAPUS.ORG

I have received a concern regarding the procedure of the Constitutional & By-Law Changes that were made at the Tri-State Convention.

  • The combination of Ex. Vice President and Service Representative is in order.
  • The temporary suspension of the 2011 Fall Convention is in order.
  • The consolidation of Area Vice Presidents is in question.
Since a question has been raised and to be fair to all of the membership, President Elect James Brady and I agree that this needs to be reviewed further.

At this time no Area Vice President elections are to be held until this issue is resolved properly.

Thank you

Vickie Shipley
TN NAPUS President

Attached is the draft of the DUO Guidelines. Nat'l NAPUS President Rapoza has put together a focus group that will meet on November 22 & 23 to review & discuss the entire draft. The group will prepare a document to be presented to Postal Headquarters on November 30th. The DUO moratorium remains in effect.

I know many of you have concerns about this process and I will keep you posted as more information comes out.

Vickie Shipley

President TN NAPUS Chapter

RETIRING TYPE? HERE’S A WEBSITE FOR YOU

In the past five years, 185,000 employees have retired from the Postal Service. Many haven’t lost interest in what’s happening at USPS and want to stay informed. So the Postal Service has created a website, keepingposted.org, with daily updates on what’s going on at USPS. The site includes an archive of USPS news releases, speeches, reports on stamp events and articles that appear in Link. Articles also feature accomplishments of retired employees. For example, check out the spotlight on postal retiree Lenora Clark, who is enjoying her retirement as one of the top women in American boating. The site also contains health and wellness tips, links to other useful websites and information about how retirees can volunteer their services in their communities. Retirees can communicate with website managers or spotlight former employees by sending an e-mail to keepingposted@usps.gov.

Thinking about retiring within the next four years.

Go to Postal Ease, look under benefits. About third from the bottom on the right is NARECS annuity estimates. You have to be within four years of minimum retirement qualifications. Give your employee ID, your pin, and select your date that you are considering retirement. Once you submit it, it will take about 3-4 weeks and you will receive it in the mail at your official address. A very good tool.
Also there is another link to help you save for retirement; located on this same page are several links to help figure in your TSP.
